Harvest.

Like every previous spring I was hoping for a great kitchen garden season this year. But it turned out the summer was chilly and rainy.
Despite the weather the results were pretty much the same as previous summers, with some vegetables growing nicely, some hardly growing at all, some seeds not sprouting, and also the usual pest damages.

We have had a nice harvest of onions, squash, sugar peas and carrots, and have been self sufficiant in vegetables through parts of the summer, which I am very pleased with :)
The tomatoes have done much better than last year, and we have had enough for pasta-, pizza- and dinner sauces and for salads.

Lately the temperatures have fallen, and we have had several frost nights, so I have harvested the vegetables from the kitchen garden and picked the remaining tomatoes in the greenhouse.
There are only leek and chilli peppers left outside, which I will harvest one of the next days.

The tomatoes picked in the greenhouse. Most are green, but hopefully they will ripen inside the house.

There were not many onions left in the kitchen garden, but I have put to dry the few I found. I guess these will be eaten quickly.

There were quite a few carrots left. Many of good size, but also many small ones. I will blanche and freeze part of the carrots, and store the rest in the fridge.

I have not harvested a single beet root this summer, so they were all harvested now. There were a couple that were quite large, while the rest were of medium size. I am happy with the harvest, and learned that beet root is easy to grow in the kitchen garden.
After removing the leaves and washed the beet roots I weighed them, and found out that the result was 2,4 kg of beet roots. I think that's good :)

Today I made pickled beet root from my own home grown organic beet roots for the first time.

2,4 kg of beet root filled six jars of 0,5 liter.
We have not tasted them, so I am curiuos about how they turned out. If they are good I'll post the recipe.

Hei!
